American School of Kosovo goes for uniform

Schoolwear International has just organised uniform for all the children at the American School of Kosovo in Prishtina. A big operation was mounted to achieve the change with visits to the school to select the uniform and fit every child.

Each pupil was provided with a standard pack of garments, each sized from a prior individual measuring session at school with Schoolwear International staff doing the fittings.

Emin Osmani, Vice Principal of the school, was glad of the help. ‘It was a very big exercise but we felt it was important to achieve the change ‘overnight’ so we had to do it this way. The Schoolwear International team were great; there was huge detail involved.’

The new uniform is very smart with navy trousers and skirts, white shirts and blouses and red blazers and navy slipovers for the girls with navy blazers and red slipovers for the boys.

Of all the 450 children at the school, one child was in particular need. Schoolwear International was very happy to assist.

Lorina Ramadani is a Sophomore student at the school and she is the daughter of a Kosovan national hero, Agim Ramadani. ‘Katana’, as he was always known during his time serving in the Kosovan Liberation Army, was the principal strategist of the KLA but was killed in battle in the last days of the conflict. He was not just a patriot; he was also a celebrated poet and painter.

A hugely widely respected figure in Kosovo’s short history, a statue of him by sculptor Gani Bajraktari has been placed outside the First National Theatre in his home province of Gnjilane, around twenty miles south east of Prishtina.

He left a wife and three children in desperate need. His two sons, Jeton and Edon, are making their own way now but the school has been pleased to help with his youngest daughter’s education and Schoolwear International was, of course, happy to help with her uniform.

Ardian Hoxha, Director of the school, has been very pleased with the service provided by Schoolwear International. ‘This was a big decision for us and we could not have achieved it without the professional and experienced help of Graham and his colleagues at Schoolwear International. The children look great!’

Graham Michelli, director of Schoolwear International, said ‘it was a lovely project to be involved in although not without its excitements; dealing with customs and shipping into Kosovo was, for example, a bit of a challenge! But between us, we got it done and that’s the main thing.’
