Schoolwear International appoints Jerry Smith

Schoolwear International today announced the appointment of Jerry Smith to its senior management team.
Jerry brings a great deal of experience in the schoolwear industry, most recently as a senior operations manager with National Schoolwear Centres, the UK's biggest nationwide Schoolwear retailer,
'We are delighted to appoint Jerry', says Schoolwear International director Graham Michelli. 'Jerry brings not only Schoolwear industry expertise but also very good international business experience having spent many years working abroad'.
'We are reaching ever farther across the world with our service and Jerry's knowledge of international trade will be a valuable extra resource to us as we go forward'.
The company is already supplying British International Schools in Europe, Africa, Asia, the Americas and the Middle East but each new country brings its own challenges and local knowledge is a huge advantage.
'Aside from the different duties levied in different countries on imports, knowledge of the local delivery services available to us is very valuable' adds Michelli.
Smith will join the senior management team of the company, based in Norfolk, England and will work from the UK and a satellite office in Turkey from where the Middle East and Asia can be conveniently served.
'I have been surprised by how many suppliers to international schools simply never visit their customers and do everything from the UK by telephone and e-mail. My habit is to get on a plane and sit across a desk from a school principal to discuss the task; there really is no substitute for that in my experience' comments Smith.
Schoolwear International is the UK's leading supplier of school uniform and sportswear to British International schools with its pioneering 'virtual school shop' concept where parents buy directly from the UK and so enjoy the advantageous tax regime that children's clothing enjoys here.
Jerry can be contacted in the first instance at js@s-i.org.uk
